If it's a Ford you can get a letter from them saying when it was made.

If you have a Ford engine send a letter to
Technicial information dept,
Ford motor company,
P O Box 300,
Walsall,
WS5 4QH.
give them the engine number and model you got it from (if known) they will send you a confirmation letter.

Burton Power catalogue lists the 2 letter codes adn dates and SVA man is happy with that.

You don't need one at all if the engine age is post 1st August 1995.

Without proof of age the engine would have to meet the latest emission requirements which would make Xflow/Pinto etc very difficult if not impossible to get through SVA

Having bought an original donor car with a V5, just keep a log of the engine number and donor vehicle details with you. As I run a really common A series engine, the good old Haynes manual has all the manufacture years against models, even carb needle codes! Turns out the Metro GTa I bought was fitted with a late MG Metro engine - Those sneaky Rover production line monkies!!
