VW beetle tax

Hi my son has a beetle that is 2weeks to young to be road tax exempt is there a way of getting around this ?
if we can find when it was built [ made ] not the time it was registered could that get it tax exempt

I think you’re out of luck as it's usually the registered date. One way out is to get an utter bucket for spares for a couple of hundred and take its docs, then grind of the chassis number on the backbone and stamp the old cars number. Not that I've ever done anything like that, cough

beetles have very few identifying numbers by the way...

The chassis number will give you the year of manufacture should have ten digits if the car was built in the 70s , the third digit is the year example 1132345675 is a 1973 car

I believe that you can get tax exempt if you have proof of manufacture before the cutoff date, even if it was registered afterwards.

historic tax is available for any car MANUFACTURED before january 1st 1973,you can get a "birth certificate" for a beetle from the stifitung automuseum in germany details below

just found the last vin numbers for tax exempt

113 2 438 833 Standard Bug

if he's only out by two weeks I expect it was built before. So he should be in luck
