Wonder why it failed SVA
zilspeed - 15/3/08 at 11:21 AM

Car on ebay.
I really can't guess from this pic why this car might have failed SVA.
It surely can't be the chicken wire covered alternator sticking out the top ?

There is also a serious lack of any indicators!

David Jenkins - 15/3/08 at 12:06 PM

Shame really - the owner has obviously put a fair bit of effort and money into it, but doesn't seem to have been aware of the SVA requirements (or misunderstood them).

If only he'd been a member of this forum, he could have avoided all those issues (as suggested above).

Is that the dizzy sticking out of the bonnet?

Wonder what engine it is?

it has indicators, but you can't see them on that picture, they're right under the headlights.

And apparently when he started building he didn't know anything about sva then:

quote:
Although the brake performance is good, it needs to be a dual line system. Basically it needs the master cylinder changing. Existing brakes to each wheel do not need to be replaced. I have a replacement master cylinder that is included.
The hand brake needs to be a cable, not hydraulic.
The steering column needs to be partly collapsible.
There are some bits of trim that need to covered as some parts of the body work are considered too smaller radius !!

Confused but excited. - 15/3/08 at 04:55 PM

I'd be a bit concerned that he built the car, but doesn't think he has the tools/skill to correct the SVA failure points.

Guessing from the position of the alternator and dizzy it's an old 3.0 Essex v6

dave1888 - 15/3/08 at 05:25 PM

Nice looking car though

tks - 15/3/08 at 05:58 PM

ask if it has stamped a chasisnumber on already....

James - 15/3/08 at 07:11 PM

Will someone post the damned link please!!!

02GF74 - 15/3/08 at 08:07 PM

the reason for the chicken wire is that the builder did not want to go over the £ 250 budget!!

mhhhh it smells a bit y quote

The chassis number can be any 17 letter and number combination of your choice.

If the car have had a SVA test then there should be already a chasisnumber in the chasis right????

Tks

Ad states it needs an SVA. It was probs a fail point that he hadnt bothered to get a chassis number sorted before he took it up as well.

£3,000 start - he will be lucky with the way hes worded the ad. It reads like he is totally incoptent and the car is a liability. Would have been better sayings its an unfinished project requiring finishing off. At least he has been honest i suppose.

Does an SVA fail sheet make it worth more?

DarrenW - 17/3/08 at 04:11 PM

Mind you - £3,000 ish for an almost finished ST doesnt sound bad. They are quite a nice looking car when built well - i like the proportions of them.
