Important Emissions Dates???

Does anyone know the important dates relating to engine emissions?

I have a Small Block Chevy that I thought was a 70's unit, but turns out to be a 92!!!

Does this change the emissions requirement for SVA (was originally hoping for a smoke-test come subsequent MOT's as well).

Are we talking about emissions for SVA? If so, only engines after 1st August 1995 have to meet the stricter emissions requirements at SVA but you must have proof of engine age in the form of a letter or other acceptable alternative.

balls.... i was going to use a 1986 engine, changed plans and got a 1998 engine forgetting all this emissions nonsense...

Yeah, it was for SVA Phil.

I seem to recall 1992 popping up somewhere as being a significant year, but can't think why.

Forget the '92 bit for SVA, that's for normal road cars fitted with cats.

If you have a pre 95 engine the MOT test/SVA says that the tester needs to look up your vehicle to see if it was fitted with a cat, if it was then the test needs to meet the tougher cat emission test. As no kitcar is listed in the book it cannot it has to be assumed that it was not fitted with a cat and get away with the less strict 3.5% test. It's a bit of a fiddle and lots of testers in the past tried to work the rule based on the engine donor car....eg "The engine is from 1994 Mondeo so it needs to be tested as that car" ...wrong, in this case the engine is from a 1994 Mondeo but it aint fitted to a Mondeo now! Ask any tester to show you the listing for say a MK Indy in his emission testing tables and I suspect he will be a long time looking! This rule caught out even the pros, I asked Dax cars about it and they got it wrong.

I,ll go with that, had a 95 MR2 turbo so should have had to meet emmisions but MR2 Turbos were never sold in the uk, import only.

Resut smoke test only applied so I ripped out the CAT and unleased the turbo, spool up much faster!
