Is a handbrake warning light now a requirement for sva or is it still just a level test switch and light.

Im pretty sure you do need a handbrake warning but could be wrong

Next post down from MNR about the digidash clarifies the point.

Its always been a requirement for SVA to have the brake warning lamp - just now the symbol has to be on the face of the lamp itself.

as per here

If you wire up a live feed to the lamp and then have two paths to earth, one via the handbrake switch and one via the fluid reservoir cap if you have a test facility then you are safe.

Always been a requirement to have a brake fluid level warning lamp but not sure about handbrake.
The post ref the digidash i take to mean that if it does have a handbrake warning light it must have the correct symbol on the light itself.

i dont have one on my hand brake i have a fluid test lamp on my dash, the handbrake switch is only there to test the bulbs working

As above - the handbrake switch is just a convenient way of proving that the brake fluid warning light is OK. A push-button would be ok, although you should remember to use it occasionally (!) or, if you're feeling really geeky, you could wire up a simple IC like a 555 timer and get it to light the lamp for 5 seconds when you turn on the ignition.

Only the brake fluid warning light is a SVA requirement.

well to be honest, i've taken the switch off the dash now, i wired it to the starter motor so it flashes on when i crank the indy over.
