Woohoo! Passed at last!
matt_claydon - 20/11/03 at 07:11 PM

Took my car for it's retest today and am very happy to say I now have my MAC and am looking forward to very shortly taking my Indy for a proper thrash :-)

I finished fixing the brakes yesterday evening and phoned up Avonmouth SVA centre this morning to ask if I could get a retest tomorrow. The lady on the phone said I could go at 3 this afternoon which I was fine by me....

....until I got the car out of the garage and it started pissing down! Fortunately I had a bike helmet to keep the rain out of my eyes, though the friend who came with me didn't and had to endure the pelting rain at 50 mph straight in the face - didn't wipe any of the grin off though ;-)

So now I'm gonna have to work my way through the labyrinth of registering it. I'm going to phone the local DVLA centre and ask them exactly what they want me to do and what forms to fill in and hope they are then happy with that.

See you on the road soon...
Matt.

Just take some deep breathes and count to 10 each time you have to jump through another hoop - worse bit of the build!

One quick note - if you get a reg. number and want plates so you can have a legal blat make sure the DVLA give you a letter saying the V5 is on its way, otherwise noone will make you plates. I found this out to my cost.

At least its ready for December though!!

Top Job Matt!

Nice to see it finished so quick and looking so smart. Seems like yesterday when I saw a pile of bits in your garage.

If you're around this way over xmas a ride would be much appreciated!

Cheers

Nick

Hi Guys,

Thanks for all the "well done"s! I am currently doing my hoop jumping at Bristol DVLA, since that is where I am keeping the car at the moment. They seem pretty efficient - I gave them my filled in V55/5, V627, SVA certificate and the donor V5 and booked in the car for an inspection on Monday morning. The guy said that as long as everything is in order I should then be able to get plates and drive it straight away ;-) Only problem is I have lost my cover note (prat!) and although FJ have supposedly sent another one, I don't think it will arrive in time :-(

Anyone who wants a ride is most welcome. I will try my best to be at Box Hill on the 7th - I am hopefully bringing the car home to Winchester on the 5th so it should be fine. Nick, I will get in touch when I am back in Winch and we can meet up.

Cheers,
Matt.

Well done Matt,

This is good news for me both for the SVA Centre and the local DVLA centre. I did contact the Bristol DVLA office when I first started my build and the woman that deals with all things kit car seemed very helpful at the time.

greggors84 - 22/11/03 at 06:00 PM

Hellfire, have u been building a locost time machine aswell? If so i want in. I could have mine ready for last year then!

greggors84 - 22/11/03 at 06:02 PM

Whats the inspection for Matt. Do the DVLA have look over it aswell?

matt_claydon - 23/11/03 at 11:48 AM

Most DVLA centres want to have a allok over the car to see that:

*It's not made from stolen bits.
*Chassis and engine numbers are correct.
*You have the requisite parts for an age related or new plate.
*It is what you say it is.

Some centres just trust what you say on the forms.

Cheers,
Matt.
