Aero/full screen swop after SVA

Does anyone know the legal implications of swapping an aero screen for a full screen after SVA?

Will the lack of windscreen wipers and demister facility cause any problems?

Has anyone done this? Is it a problem either practically or legally????

All opinions welcome

Hi,
Dont think there are any legal implications as the demister is not tested in the MOT however a set of wipers will be advisable! and will be checked at an MOT. i don't know if it is a case of "if they are fitted they must work" like hazards or a case of "you have a windscreen so you MUST have wipers".

I have full screen and wipers, but no demister and have not fallen foul on an MOT in some years - i even had to quote the manual to the tester when he failed me for not having hazard lights, "they must work if fitted"

Thanks for the reply. It's as I feared - I will have to fit the wipers if I fit the screen.

I am interested in how you got your car on the road but don't have hazard warning lights. Did you get it finished before the SVA test came along?

Yes it was built 1995.

but enven on your regular everyday road car, if the hazards give up the ghost (assuming you indicators still work) just remove the switch and they will have to pass it because they have no means of operation therefore do not need to work

In terms of your own personal safety, covenience and piece of mind im sure you wouldnt want to have a screen with no wipers anyway?

But if you do, just remove the screen pre-MOT and she will pass no bother, i am going to go screenless in mine next season, may need to toughen myself up over the winter first though

I'm just thinking about routes to get my car finished and on the road as quickly as possible.

I was hoping to not fit wipers/washers/demister - but don't want to HAVE to swop to aeroscreen for every MOT.

Best solution is to perhaps SVA the car without any of the above but fit the wipers/washers after SVA when I fit the fullscreen.

Thanks for your help.

I am planning to start my new build in the spring and will be following that route too, making it as basic as possible, maybe even as far as only as the one seat, definately no screen and the associated components, i may add them later but my main goal is to keep enthusiasm high and build time down.

its only a matter of time before the SVA gets tougher and tougher so the quicker we can get on the road the better and you can tinker at your leisure there after
