I've just had a call about my sva application, they have said because most of the receipts are not in my name (I did not build the car) they will not allow me put the car through the sva test, what can I do???

Isn't there an option on the form to say that the car was built (and Part built) by someone else?
Surely this is an easier and legal/more honest option?
Steve
yes the form does give that option to say it was part built by someone else. you might need photos from the point you got it and to prove it wasnt from a "builder" and not an individual if you know what i mean.
Have you got pictures or photos during the build?? To be honest I'd ask which regulation they're following and offer to take it up with VOSA headquarters. I've never heard of this ruling before and if they're making it up they'll soon give in....
I told them I done all the electrics but they have said for me to put the car through I would have had to have done the majority of the build, the electrics was far short of majority of the build
Just been on the phone with the sva guys and they have said I need to prove it was built as a amateur build, if I can not prove this then I should strip the car down and rebuild it myself taking photos and ensuring the receipts are in my name
So, do you have a receipt from the guy you bought the part-complete from?
If not is it possible that you contact him and get a receipt? In doing so, you could ask him for any photos...
Steve
I have a receipt as I bought the car off ebay and I have about 30 picture of various stages of the build
i didnt even have any recipts when i presented mine for sva
write to the head honcho at swansea and ask to be shown where you have to take it apart again
Think I may have found why they do not think it was a amature build, It looks like some of the item were purchased through work (some of the receipts say trade purchase)
I like many others can get trade discounts but that does not mean i am a professional builder or even work as a car mechanic for that matter only
interested in cars etc as a hobby like most of us .

I didn't have any receipts for my MNR. None. I SVAed without a problem. It was difficult to get a number plate at the DVLA inspection, as I didn't have an engine number either.
I was hit with the same nonsense in April when I apllied for my SVA test, insufficent recipts to prove that I built it even though I stated that I had
bought the car part built. In the end I had to get a certified letter from the previous owner stating that he had built the car as a hobby and lost
interest and sold it on.
Informed them that I rebuilt the whole car for peace of mind and got my test date 1 week later. Dont panic the seem to be doing this quite a bit just
now.
The technical manager at DVLA that I spoke to was quite open about the fact that they were under pressure from above to clamp down on the ameutar
build status as far too many kit car companies are building the cars and SVA testing them for customers.
Chin and keep the pressure on them for a date.....
How do they test Imports
I thought they where made in Japan.
So what happens if your like me donor came foc from grand parents
alot of parts coming from stuff i've collected or been givin??
realistically only stuff i'll end up with recipts for is chassis and bodywork as majority of other stuff will be beg borrowed or swapped for
favours??

so whats the problem with companies building up the cars?shirley they should be built to a higher standard?
make sure you get receipts from your grandparents' and receipts for anything your given
If you have pictures showing it was built in a normal, private garage rather than a workshop that should be adequate - you do not have to have receipts, just be able to show it is an amateur build not built by proffesionals
Ian,
Where are you. I'm sure a crowd could be gathered, and car stripped and rebuilt (with pics) in a day

falsify some receipts and rob some photos from somebodys archive they deserve it for being knobs

If a company builds a car it is required to go through a more stringent test. As it was explained to me the SVA is there for people who have built there cars themselves.
