Getting a VIN no.
carnut - 6/12/03 at 10:52 AM

Ivejust been in contact with the dvla, they told me to send a v55 and the built up vehicle inspection report to them and they will arrange for the police to come and stamp my chassis.

Can I just make up a vin no. and take my car to sva. Then just send in all the forms to get my plates.

Methinks someone's confused...

You have to have an official VIN registered with the DVLA before you can have an SVA test.

My local licencing office told me that I will have to fill in some form or other (not V55, I'm sure), I will stamp the number on the chassis, then it's checked by someone official (from the licencing office, or at an MOT station).

On the other hand, I may be talking complete horse droppings...

have a look down the list, started by bob there is a comprehensive write up on what you have ahead of you

Second Conrod, but will state that what is required is different according to local office. I wrote to my local office being perfectly clear about what I was doing, what I wanted to achieve. They were very helpful, and as an example of differences don't require any inspection of VIN stamping as they realise this is done during SVA...

I completed as many parts as required of the V55/5 and 627/1 as I could (some info comes form SVA MAC certificate) and was issued with a VIN, the local office have opened a file on my vehicle and when it passes SVA, the V55/5 is completed with the required information and the vehicle is allocated a registration mark.

Oh yeah and don't try and dodge the required procedure, for some reason they won't be too happy...

Cheers

Mine was the same as seabass,V55/5 and 627/1.
Didnt have any kind of inspection and have recieved chassis/VIN number.

Form with chassis number issued to me however does state that i have to get number stamped on car by dealer or local garage, and their authorisation must be confirmed and their dealer stamp and sig sent back to the VRO.

I'm pretty sure that one person is not in charge of this area of registration, its very vague and i feel a book coming

7 days from phone call to vin number with the DVLA at brighton. A lot easier then I thought.

I've stamped my own and a few others Bob. We got them verified by the MOT station. I put mine on the aluminium where it folds over the top rail in the engine bay and on a plate spot welded to the top of the section next to the pedal box. They were happy with that.

yours, Pete

Northampton office told me to just make up my own and stamp it on, i also stamped up an ally plate and rivetted it on, and assume the SVA inspector will verify it.
Is it also correct that it is now official that no MOT test is required for registration?.
