Can't tell you how relieved I am that after about 13 years since I rebuilt the engine in the first stages of the build I't struck up today
for the first time and runs quite well on the basicly set up second hand twin 40's and second hand Lumenition sparks, Escort mk2 Loom mated to
Fiat Engine and guages .
The exhaust bandages give off copious amounts of smoke is this normal ?

gotta get ready for first test drive when my daughter gets home from school a second seat willl help methinks !
Ian
Well done, great feeling. Can't your daughter just hang on to the roll bar?! Thus saving weight on the second seat.
Roll bar is another job too !!!
Congratulations. Yes the copious amount of smoke is normal from the bandages. I can never decide whether the smell is chocolate chip cookies or
popcorn.....
But it goes quite quickly (perhaps sadly!!)....
Nasty oil leak from dipstick I think (a pain)
Diff fouling trans tunnel over bumps (a big hammer job)
Exhaust touching rear wing due to expansion when hot (a bit of fettling)
speedo not working ( hopefully drive cable not fitted right )
idle a bit erratic and racy ( not too bad straight out of the box , carbs need an expert)
but all things considered not too bad
SVA test 5.5 days and counting.
Speedo now working (shortened the outer cable sheath )
Added a cranked extension to the exhaust bracket , so now sits lower and further away from body solved.
still leaking oil but not getting worse.
Bashed the rear tunnel out , raised the suspension , tweaked the dampers , shortened the axle leading arms half a dozen turns on the rose joints
.....still clonks now and then . gonna see if I can get some button head bolts for the drive flange to gain a few more mm .
will try to get it booked in at Tiger for a carb setup.
SVA 4 days and counting
Raised the suspension again (not so you'd notice) then decided to tighten up all the bushes that had up to now been free to swivel . ground of
the edges of the bolt heads on the prop/diff flange ...result no nasty noises !
spent a while covering nuts and edges and fitting bits of trim.
Throtle linkage a bit temperamental but idle speed sudenly dropped from 2000+ to a less frenetic pace.
parked up in the shed and noticed the alternator pivot bolt was nearly out so nut must have fallen of .
SVA 2 days and bricking it now one or two jobs still to do
booked at Tiger in the morning though my neighbour who races one says I'd be better taking it somwhere else .

It's 1.25 am come in from the shed can't think of much else to do . Got the engine running sweet as a nut now (spindles in carbs were
sticking) covered everything I can think of in soft/blunt stuff. be nice if it stops raining for the morning .
Time for bed...fingers crossed
