hi
im hoping you guys can help i built a locost many years back before sva with no problems things were much easier then lol since i have only built
track toys but im working on a locost type car for the road
the thing is its been put together from bits i had laying arround or found cheap in scrap yards etc
the engine i happened to have so although i know what it is and the year i have no idea which car it came from etc neither after all these years do i
have very many recipts
how would i go about registering the car and getting it through the sva
would i be best off getting hold of a sierra log book and changing the engine no via the dvla before attempting to register it or is there another way
i know how complicated the government have made things like this
thanks
AFAIK
You can register what you've got and get a Q plate.
Only if getting an age related plate is important to you, do you need a proof of a doner (donor)
Best not to change the engine number, not nessesary anyway, even that does not need to be frome the donor, in the case of my BEC for instance, I got
age related against the running gear used and emmissions testing based on the age of the engine
Parts origin doesn't matter for SVA (other than proving the age of the engine for emissions test).
As far as registration is concerned you only need donor docs if you want an age-related number plate. If you're happy with a Q-plate it
doesn't matter where the parts came from.
Though having a few invoices showing you bought them from a scrappy and didn't nick and break up a car seems to make the people at DVLA happy.
They were grumpy when I said I didn't have invoices.
I just pointed out that there desire to see invoices is recent and I'd been collecting the parts for the car and building it for the last 6
years....
lol thanks guys q plate is no probs just want to drive the thing i just know how funny the government slaves get with all their pen pushing
It took me 15 years from buying my donor bits to sva and reg. you just need documentary evidence of the engine age from the manufacturer for
emmissions at SVA . then scrape as many receipts as you can together for reg . they love to see photos of various stages of build so dig out as many
as you can. Don't try to fudge it you will only get in a sticky mess. It is a case of "Force majeur" (can't spell sorry) as you
could not have foreseen that you would subsequently need all the info they now like to see .
good luck
SVA have started asking to see receipts and photos to prove it's an amateur build. But that's just in the last year.
