sva fail - Leighton buzzard
dan__wright - 5/9/08 at 12:08 PM

failed my sva yesterday, nothing too bad.

a few edges that are going to be a bit awkward but will try and wind a way around them.

biggest two problems are noise and emissions.

i got 107 at 7.5k

emissions were way out but its running very very rick (lambda 6.something!)

does anyone have a sva friendly map for a 06-07 zx10 and any suggestions for bringing the noise down abit? wire wool in the silencer?

BenB - 5/9/08 at 12:12 PM

Personally I would have made sure they weren't doing the test @ 7.5k (what max power RPM did you state?)....

I doubt wire wool will do much, considering the log scale of dB you need a serious reduction in noise (likely a secondary can- is there space?)..

10.5k max power (which it is)

i did think about a second silencer but there isnt really any room.

Aha! Honesty.... Schoolboy error...
Is there any way you make your tacho think it's a 5-pot not a 4-pot?? A 20% reduction in indicated RPM does wonders for dB

i tried to tell porkies about max power on my R1 but VORSA called me to say they had looked it up and caught me out, i had to hold my hands up

Cheers

i possibly could (with some trickery, using bike clocks) but it also needs an emissions test and the emissions test picks up your revs so they would know ive pissed about with it.

Same here, i think it was paul budd that called me to say 12.500 was peak power! so had test @8.500rpm and got 97DB so nothing to worry about in the end

Dan, your more than welcome to borrow the can i used for sva. if you pick up and return it

dan__wright - 5/9/08 at 12:44 PM

thanks, i may have to take you up on that offer, my only problem would be getting it to fit, ive got almost no space!

Ok that didn't work! here's another better pic!

would it not fit in place of your can? Rescued attachment outside6.jpg

i don't think it would, the mnr silencer is very long, my manifold is very long and there isnt huge room for the silencer.

Johneturbo - 5/9/08 at 01:40 PM

ahh point taken Dan. it looked like you had a long link pipe in your avatar pic.

how did you get the cat to fit for the sva?

dan__wright - 5/9/08 at 04:05 PM

different can with a cat built into it.

adithorp - 5/9/08 at 04:34 PM

What were the emmision readings? 6.something doesn't sound like lambda, more like CO. Is the cat' a car one? Bike cat's aren't big enough. Someone elses map might not help as they (emmisions) vary depending on airbox/exhaust etc. Your best having a play at a friendly garage with the laptop and thier gas meter. Make sure the cat is up to working temp (takes a while with lots of revs). Mine was also all over the place as the coolant temp was climbing and the fan cutting in and out, untill I over-rode the fan switch.

107db is loud! Think you need a bigger silencer. My R1 came in at 101@8250rpm...right on the limit (failed first time at 102db 'cos of a missfire).
