tank position
alainmengoli@hotmail.com - 3/1/04 at 02:16 PM

Can I put my tank whereever I want. I am building a midengined car and have the option of putting above the engine, infront of the bulkhead , or above the gearbox.

As far as I remember the tank has got to be separated from the engine by a bulkhead

dying in a petrol fireball isnt nice I suspect.

put the tank somewhere logical.

the car industry put them under the car for safety reasons and are (never?) in the passenger compartment.

personally, I think the std locost 'book' position is crap - its the first thing to get hit in an accdent!

Seeing as you are building a 500, use the original position, perhaps a little lower for safety and COG, but you will need an external filler arrangement

i would be very worried about driving around with 5 gallons of petrol sitting above my legs and so close to hot engine!!

does it matter if the tank is higher than the engine? just wondering about a syphon effect...

thanks.
