Hi all,
Just had a chat with the DVLA about SORN and also tried to retain the donor plates as it had MKO at the end; but no chance as the donor had been
scrapped even though its registered in my name and i hold the V5. I was told it would have to be inspected to retain the reg..But, good news as you
can email a SORN declaration, so no waiting for forms etc. The email address is:vehicles.dvla@gtnet.gov.uk
I'm filling in the sva forms to post tomorrow but i'm still not sure about making up the chassis number as i'm still confused.
How many have made up their own number for sva and got away with it?
Steve
I live in nottingham and when I rang up my local vro he told me to make one up as long as it was 17 digits long. And I did.
I was a bit concerned for the sva but nothing was even said about it.
Cheers
mark
is it just 17 numbers with letters? or any combination of both
Steve
your confused steve?how about the peeps that were told to make their own number then told they cant do that as vro has to issue it,best to have words and get a name or something in writing
Your right, i did mention it to dvla and they did say they will have to have a look at the car first. I'll just have to wait until they get someone to come and have a look.
I spoke to the man at Sheffield VRO he admtted it was a bit of a grey area but said there was no problem in creating your own VIN number as long as it
conformed to thier format ie 17 digits alfa and numeric. Must start with 2 letters.
He said just make sure it was stamped on the frame or a plate and put the same number on the SVA form. He also pointed out that it obviously has to be
unique so try and make it so, or else they will issue with another one, and it could cause delay.
Ill let you know how I get on.
Gordon
cars looking good steve, any more pics of the rear lights???
SORN by email
is that a typo?
A VIRUS!!!
Take me out the back and shoot me!
i have just spoken to dvla swansea and they said 'Yes' its okey to make up a VIN number using 8 to 17 alfa-numeric digits that is unique. I
asked her to check again with mates in office and she came back confirming it's okey.
Now i've just got to find a way to have it written on to a plate.
Thanks Conrod' i'll post more recent pics soon.
Steve
I've stamped several onto strips of 16g steel for friends. We tack them to the battery tray area. I also stamped the aluminium where it goes over
the top rail in the engine bay. I use 5mm stamps from Screwfix but Machine Mart do a set now.
yours, Pete.
Thanks Peteff,
I'll give machine mart a call.
Sorry guys,
It seems the information from the lady i spoke to in the dvla office is not correct, you can't declare SORN by e-mail as they require a
signature; just got a reply from them. Its back to the nasty form filling.
Can't understand why she said it.
Steve
PS. some good news ...i passed my MOT, awaiting reply for SVA date.
Could you send a fax then?. I used the scanner to send one the other day for the first time, really handy. Can't think of excuses to use it more
so that would be a good one.
yours, Pete.
