I'd suggest no for the foam and tape myself. You can buy some really neat covers for some of the jobs there - they are well worth getting and not just for SVA either. I'll dig out a link now - probably some on ebay or you could try Tifosi for them
track rod end covers
Tifosi do the same as the above also. They used to do ball joint covers also but i cant see them at the moment!!
From a friend's recent SVA failure: they will not accept tape, but will accept cable ties.
On the upper joint I used the boot off an old track rod end and on the bottom of the spring a cut down CV boot.

It must be perminent (needs tools to remove) and insulating tape can be unwound so isn't. If you use tape, use self-amalgamating. Once applied it
can't be unwound and must be cut off.

Most testers will acept self amalgamating tape as this bonds to itself permenantly. The shockers on mine were failed as the tester coulf feel the
edges of the nut through the rubber sleeve. I solved this by wrpping foam arouynd then covering with rubber sleeve.
Good luck

Shock covers will fail as if you can still feel the lock nut for the shock they will fail it,
Most people used thick pipe like fuel pipe etc and cable tie on,
Hope this helps
The glands shown in the link can be bought from electrical wholesalers and are used in large electrical distribution boards to cover cables where they enter the board. I think they come in various sizes and are much cheaper than those on evil bay.
For the top link i used neopreen ( bit of old dy suit) and 50mm heat shrink
fold your shock cover back for double thickness, that's how mine passed
thanks for the advice i will have enough go again.
so are cable tie's ok?
as well will the heater hose pass as it is one pice and it can not feel anythink or can not fall of.
thanks
