Tremec box in a locost?
Blakey_boy - 30/10/07 at 05:45 PM

Does anybody know if there has been a TKO600 fitted in a locost type frame or not and if so did they manage to mate it to a Cossie lump?

That particular question was raised by a friend!!!. Who wondered what the Aceeleration would be like with a Cossie on a full rally tune as full race was supposed to be around 500 plus BHP.

I said that even with Torsional stiffness it would probably twist the hell out of the chassis but, there again this guy has got more money than sense and posed the question which I have now asked.

Any replies Blah, Blah, Blah

i think theyre be a lot of wheelspin involved , a t5 type box will fit in a locost if you make the tunnel wide enough .

its been done in westfields and hicost will be along to show you how to do it .

a tremec fits the US mustang so theres no reason to discount it - i was even going to fit one to mine - at £900 for a new one at the time it was pretty good deal .

i got a t56 in mine, thats a 6 speed tremec basicly, so yes it would fit. think my tunnel may have been made to take it when it was built though.

Now there goes a car that's seen a few post-SVA modifications

I would suspect that it's a GOME entrant?

I was supposed to be doing it with 'oioi' last year (shark-infested Westie) but had to pull out....

At some point you have to consider will it offer a real performance advantage -- probably not.

Once you get over 300 bhp per ton on road tyres the most productive way to gain acceleration is to find a way reduce wheel spin.

Cheers for the replies guys.

He has seen the replies and FYI the "lump" as it were is a Cosworth TE 2.1 Turbo as originally put in the RS500 ford works rally cars. Hencce the need for a meaty box
