Rover T series (In line gearbox bellhousing)
wilkingj - 3/12/07 at 08:25 AM

Does the team know if anyone makes a bellhousing for the Rover T series engines. ie so it can be made in line for a kit car.
Also, if there is one made, what gearbox it is for.

Having a silly idea about using a rover 220 Coupe engine. They are T series, Turbo'd, and easily make 200BHP.

A nice package, although I believe its quite a tall engine.

Robin hood used to do packages with T-series, gearbox and everything

Look for the much maligned discovery MPi
Runs a NA T16 2 litre with an LT77 box.

It is quite tall but doesn't look that big in the disco engine bay

Freelander also

Freelander is FWD and transverse so no use.

Bellhousing from Sherpa/LDV with 2.0 O series petrol engines or 2.0 diesel 200/Pilots is what you want. Disco input shaft is shorter IIRC so bellhousing is not suitable.

I've T16ed a few Locosts as for stock power and cost they can't be beat. All turns to expensive nutsack when you try and tune them though.

I have several bellhousings stashed as they're not exactly plentiful

It's also a bit heavy IIRC. PPC had an article on it a while back. One of the projects is to stuff one into an MGB using the original gearbox (!)

They used an MT75 with an adapter plate IIRC. Probably cut out with an axe by a blind man.

Not ever used in the Freelander

It is however a very very good engine even non-turbo MPi form it chucks out 140 bhp with really sweet power delivery.

yeah the plate was plasma cut - the holes then punched out , by a blind man holding an axe .

its worth bypassing these , since they leak oil from new - had oiling issues aswell .
