Nearly one more Locost on the road...

Well, we had our SVA test today. Came away with a fail but nothing too major at all which is a relief. In all honesty I didn't really expect a first time pass as we probably haven't used the manual as well as we should have throughout the build!

First fail, which came as a bit of a suprise, was the bare exhaust pipe. He said due to the burn risk this needs to have a shield or be wrapped. No biggy.

Second sliiightly more tricky one is a problem with self centering. Tried most of the tricks; high tyre pressures, toe-out and the caster adjusted to the maximum possible. He said it was marginal on passing but needs some more assistance. Any more ideas people? Thinking that we need to run more camber, which in essence increases the KPI too

These along with a couple of small things is all that is needed so I'm quite happy. The guy (Malcom, Yeading) seemed genuinely interested in the car and was helpful. Also commented that it was tidy and well put together, which again I was happy with considering its already slightly battle-weary looking body work!

Few pics from the day:

Very nice Shame about the fail. I cant help you with the self centreing but i thought the exhaust rule was for IVA not SVA?

How long can i resist the temptation to drop a V8 in?

Unlucky with the exhaust... or was he practising for IVA?

Lucky with the fog light, which doesn't look near vertical from the shot you've posted (unless that was one of the other "small things"

the exhaust one is unusual, i passed SVA with a bare exhaust, the chap didn't say anything to me about it.

don't think that you have anything to worry about there.

well done, car does look very tidy

Yeh i thought it was odd on the exhaust front but there we go, easily fixed. He is happy for us just to wrap it in exhuast wrap.

The fog-lamp, you're correct in saying that it isn't vertical. One thing we ran out of time to do and expected to get pulled up on, but it was never mentioned!

As conrod said, test centre was in Yeading nr. Hayes. Funnily enough it was pretty sunny for most of the day!

Indicators passed, they are long enough, with a few mm's to spare

When we turned up and he saw it was a Locost he said something along the lines of that he was going to go through the book rule by rule but even after having said this he seemed be fairly lenient.

He also mentioned that they don't tend to see many kit's anymore, at best one a month apparently. I found this somewhat suprising thinking it would be significantly more.

Bob: Will let you know when it is though it's possible that I won't come down to the re-test as it's a bit of trek and a very early starting coming from Loughborough, will leave it to the old man for this one! Btw, the mirrors worked a treat so thanks again for those.
