Q plate? Age-related plate?
Hi,
Me and a friend have just started on a locost project, the parts are being sourced from a Mondeo (2.0 Zetec and a few other bits), and a Xr4x4 -
running gear.
Now my question is, whats the score with getting this thing registered when its done. Ive heard you guys talking about Q plates, and age-related
plates...
...what do they mean, and which am i going to have to get?
or do i use one of the existing chassis numbers and reg??

Hi.
First off you wont be able to keep your excisting plates.
You get an age related plate ie the same letter prefix as you donor if you use 2 or more major components from the donor, and you have the V5 for the
donor to prove where the bits came from.
Otherwise you will be given a Q plate.
The major components are:
Engine, Suspension (front & rear), Axles(both),Transmission, & Steering Assy.

Transmission
Hi
I was wondering about this - when you say that the transmission counts as a major component - how much of it do you have to use?
Just the gearbox, or the diffs and stuff like that as well? How can BEC cars get an age related plates other than using engine/gearbox? Or is this how
they get it? - I might have answered my own question here!

If you use front uprights, rear "axle" (diff/driveshafts etc), steering, gearbox (I suspect you 4x4 has been converted to 2WD when you
strip it) and brakes you should have no probs getting an age related plate the same year as the Sierra donor. Buy parts from different cars and have
no proof of single donor you will get a plate starting with a "Q". Having the donor with the V5 gives you the option either way. Best to
seek advice before filling out DVLA forms.
