how do you prove a gearbox and diff age

Hi, been speaking to the SVA tester this morning. I was under the impression id get a Q plate because i hadnt used a single donor (or have a donor logbook at all) but he said if i could prove the age of the engine diff and gearbox id get enough points to have an age related plate. How do you do this, he did say they didnt have to all be the same year, i could just use the most recent, so has anyone done this before? When did they stop making cars with type 9 gearboxes and 7" XR4x4 back axles? Would that be early enough to keep me as a pre 1991 car for emissions? Thanks

engine age is easy - if it is ford, then it'll have two letters indicating the year.

search on here or on t'web if you want to know more.

SAVE peeps have been known to accept the pages from the burton power catalogue as proof of age.

for gearbox, not so easy - you would need to contact Ford for that one; again the address has been posted on here.

engine will be tested acdordeing to date of manufacture if proven, otherwise to lastest statnad if not (not !00% sure about the last one).

quote wiki -

Its replacement came in the form of the Escort RS Cosworth which appeared in 1992, which used a shortened and developed version of the Sierra platform and running gear but clothed with an Escort-esque bodyshell and the return of the whale-tail spoiler.

It's nothing to do with age - you need 2 major components from the same donor vehicle in order to get an age-related plate.

It's all on Direct Gov, just search for "kit conversion". The points system has absolutely nothing to do with it, I don't understand why so many people think it does.
