Failed but not refused! HURRAH!
Hi Guys,
Thanks for all the kind comments in the other thread.
My Mrs has just popped out, so thought I'd give people an update.
Hardly slept, then up at 5am, got to test centre an hour early.
Drove the car for the FIRST TIME!
Cheesy Grin factor 100! I was laughing my head off! IT MOVES!!
Unfortantly that was the end of the good news really, failed. Quite badly actually, but I have 6 months to retest as the engine didn't miss a
beat the whole time!
I love you and your reliable engines Mr Honda sir!
Got three pages of failures, some were quite suprising, others were on my list of last night.
Gary (at least I think it was Gary) was sound, super helpful and even offering me tips on how to sort stuff.
A few big jobs to do though!
Provide a degree of self centreing (and after driving without any, I think I want mine to do it properly, with no funny fixes) so that will be new top
wishbones
Upper steering colum mount is not substancial engough, I need to brace it to the chassis.
Engine cradle mounts need a touch more welding (he got me under the ramps to show me as its only from underneath)
so they will need a bit of stripping down work to sort..arg!
apart from those,
A few wiring gremlins raised there heads, as did the classics of noise, emissions and the odd edge that needs radiusing.
Their brake test machine kept breaking so they couldn't do the tests, or weigh the car, so there is quite a list of things to be done - before
it broke he was able to check the brakes, and all seems good, just a few tweeks like securing balance bar etc.
I didn't see the point of fixing stuff as I went, as I knew I would have to come back, and all I'd do is slow him down more.
BUT most importantly I have a manageable list to work through, and 6 months to sort it as my little BEAUTY of a car didn't die on me!
I even took the car for a cheeky spin round the site a few times
Pesky stones flicking up everywhere!
met 4 fellow builders too, 1 dax rush (Chris) one Robin Hood 2b (Father and Daughter I think) 1 caterham (drool Drool) and a westfield.
We all failed! Even the caterham. He didn't look happy, but then I wouldn;t if I'd have spent what he did. But I haven't, so
I'm chuffed.
For all those with the SVA in the next few days, its not actually as scary as it seems - though the testers do start off stern and then get friendlier
- ALL THE BEST!

nice one, working to a known list is a lot easier anyway and you can take great pleasure in ticking them off.

don't write OT on a new thread title, you're creating the topic, everything you write is very much ON topic!

Well done the list is a huge help, I re-wrote mine onto a big piece of paper and hung it up in the garage, and when you come to tick the jobs off a
great feeling rushed over me.
A case of 1 step closer.
Regards
Bob

I whacked it into the rail as the doors went up! Didn't do a great job, so he let me re-do it

As above mate a good result! Certainly the only positive one that was realistically hoped for!
Get in touch whenever and we'll sort through that list in the next week or so, no worries! (And same applies as what I said before mate )
Seriously, well done Andrew!!!

thanks mate. I have been rummaging back through the list, and its all really doable stuff.
I'm giving the car a break for a few days,
1 because my Mrs deserves a bit of attention,
2 becuase I need to focus on applying for jobs and
3 I'm knackered.
Cheers for all the kind words everyone

Well done mate. It's not as bad as you think it's going to be is it and the testers are very helpful. The fail list's a good feeling
isn't it because you kind of know where the end is. Once them few jobs are done you're all legal. I'm still grinning away.
Surprised at the Caterham fail. I was told the likes of these and Westfield were considered aerofix kits and so fly through quickly and easily.
Well done again though mate, you can take a relaxing break for a while.
