exhaust exit
hi all. is there any rule about not having the exhaust pipe finish near the front of the vehicle? just cos mine will fit ok under the wing behind the
wheel, but will stick out beyond the wheel-line if i put it down the side.

ah ha! doesnt make much sense to me either now!
i mean, does it matter if the exhaust pipe ends VERY close to the front of the vehicle? is there an issue with not breathing fumes in?! obviously
common sense says you dont want to be gasping for breath at traffic lights, but i really dont want to run the exhaust down the length of the car!
to put it another way, if i hold the exhaust can as close to the side of the car, in its 'usual' position say half way down the side, the
lip sticks out further than the front or back wheels. i think the sva man will moan about this! this is because my cockpit is very wide.
i have a polo silencer that is narrower but it isnt designed for the same amount of exhaust gas and might strangle the engine.

joel,
Maybe you can cut the tail off and fit one of the chrome aftermarket boy racer attachments, i had one that was bent about 30deg on my old exhaust on
the f27, dont have any pics though sorry, it will allow it to kich out a bit but not nearly as much as with a full on 90 or 45 deg kink

Joel,
I guess it's gonna depend on the man at the test centre.
So long as:
a) Below 101 db
b) The ends are radiused
you may be ok - a telecon may be of help. I know there is a chap in the US with a turbo'd Hayabusa and the exhaust exits in the middle of the
fairing - more or less in line with tank cap. But that's
a) in the USA
b) on a bke.

this is what it turned out like!

theres about 2 inches clearance with the tyre so a bit of lagging will be needed... looks like it will work though.

Ah ha - I've seen the beast!!
Surely with the *really* short pipe (and bearing in mind the test equipment is say 50 cm away from the end of the exhaust pipe) it'll never get
under the 101dB?
The test equipment will be sitting next to a revving engine, so may well fail on the engine noise ading to the exhaust note.
Unless anyone contradicts what I'm guessing, i reckon get the exhaust the furthest length away from other noises!
Soz mate, but better to do it now than after a fail, IMO.

true mark, however i expect it to fail on something anyway so a retest is a dead cert, and if it comes to it i can just add another smaller box as an
extension! i have a couple of polo silencers floating about.
