IVA - Immobiliser

It would appear that for IVA i will need to fit an electronic immobiliser, not a bad thing as it would hopefully reduce insurance premiums too.

Any recommendations for makes etc, would have thought min thatcham 2.

Also i need to show a fitting certificate to say its been fitted by a qualified person....... Any qualified auto electricians out there who would vouch for an installation for a few beer tokens?

Going by the standard of "certified" installations I have seen latley I would imagine that a three yearold could claim to be your "expert" and sign the paperwork in crayon!

Stupid isn't it, we are building a whole car but need an 'expert' to fit the alarm/immobiliser.

Not specifically electrically qualified myself but i have made the whole car loom from scratch and they dont seam to be bothered by that!

With an imoballiser it either works or it dosn't surely the IVA tester can see its been installed correctly......

Electric you say?
I thought that was only for cars without a steering lock?

If you read the manual, it says you can have mechanical or electronic, so key and steering lock are still fine. I think the difference between SVA and IVA is that *if* you have an immobiliser fitted, it has to be a certified install.

I think it says if no steering lock then an electronically approved immobiliser has to be installed - not a kill switch

if your engine ecu came fromt he factory with an inbuilt immobiliser and you transferred over this and the lock ring, steering column etc and maintained its operability, would you still need a certificate?

In most cases it would be part of the unmodified engine loom.
