Re-Tests
Following discussion with other members recently, they say that they have taken their cars for re-test and the testers have accepted the repairs to
the original faults but have discovered yet more faults, which were present during he initial test but overlooked, and issued another failure
certificate. I was under the impression that they only re-tested on items it failed on. I know it is in everyones interest to ensure the car is safe
and properly tested but it us seems unfair that they can find more faults during re-test. It also makes you wonder that if they do miss faults on the
first test and yet issue a pass that the undiscoverd faults may cause a problem or danger at a later date. I know they are only human and mistakes can
occur and items missed but is there some inconsistancy here. Barry

I dont agree to be honest. I think they can only test the car as presented on the day and who's to say that the faults they went and found at
the retest were actually there in the first test?? The builder may have introduced faults whilst correcting the original failure points if you see
what i mean.
For example, if you had to dismantle a castellated nut and removed the split pin but forgot to put it back, is it unfair to then fail you on it unless
you can fit one whilst there?

The re-test is any item that the car failed on plus any items that repairs to failed items may have effected. They will also fail you on other items
they spot that may have been missed previously, although won't go looking for them. They will be looking for the stuff they know is prone to
"falling off".
Tester spent ages checking my brake pipes; 2 weeks later and I spotted a leak! That's just the way things are.

Happened to me. Passed on everything that I failed on on the first time round, then he decided to measure the area of my o/s mirror, and failed me on
that.

It appears they do what they like..
At Gillingham, they decided first SVA i needed a sierra steering wheel, on the re-test he decided i no longer needed it and my small steering wheel
with edge trim was fine.
Decided i needed locking nuts on my transit drag links, which i didnt need first time... Hence Barry's post !!

i had some faults mentioned on re-test but were overlooked, one main example was my rear number plate mounting had a radius issue but it was there on
the first test, i argued that had it been brought to my attention initially then it would have been rectified, in the end i got a mac and he whispered
to me that the car was presented without the mounting "wasnt it Mr Smith" i duly nodded and swiftly removed the mac from his hand

Yeah while i was there, they let through a car with it's exhaust being too loud.... bitter.. me... never

More a case of you always needed them and they didn't spot the fact that they were missing the first time.
