Failed MOT

Unfortunately, my little locost failed its MOT this morning, not miserably. The tester couldnt get enough pressure on the brake pedal to get the brakes working properly ( short- arse). Will have to move the master cylinder down the pedal (floor mounted) to improve the ratio . but other than that he said the rest was really good. even the emissions was fine, even though he didnt have to do them he was curious.
The drive there and back was brilliant, seem to have cured the lack of power problem by cleaning and lubricating the dizzy, and putting a strobe light on for the timing. goes like a rocket. As for the brakes, i told him that you didnt need them as the car was that light the engine was brake enough for it, he just laughed.

Oh well retest next saturday.
And another drive on the road too

Change the master cylinder to one with a smaller bore --- typical bore for use without a servo is 19mm -- 3/4"

fitting a 3/4" master cylinder in place of a 7/8" -- 22.2mm mastercylinder reduces the pedal effort by 1/3

A good source of non servo master cylinders is the 1980s base model Polo

It might also be possible to use a base model Metro Lockheed mastercylinder if the resevoir is changed to the horizontal type.

Dont really want to go changing bits now, the SVA date is iminent. will go for the change on the brake pedal, there is room for improvement there, as was pointed out before ( i never listen ). need a longer pedal any way, with size 10's the pedal is a little short.

I had the same problem with my brakes

I just drilled a hole 1/2 up the peddle and that moved the fulcrum point

brakes were much better after that

even better when I put 4 pot calipers on the front
