fuel cap location help
Can I use a screw cap mounted direct on the tank under a boot cover for the IVA? Because it is a screw cap I will tether it in some way or are there
locking ones available?

I don't see why not as long as it complies with the rules. As you say the lid is tethered.
On a practical note don't make it difficult to fill!
Make sure you don't fall foul of increasing the danger of spilling fuel onto hot surfaces! Diff for example may be interpreted as a hot
surface?!
I'll be interested to know what others think.

Search for deck filler on eBay, they are cheap but are thethered and are even marked with the correct fuel.

IVA manual:
14.
Fuel tank filling points must not be located in the passenger compartment, luggage compartment or within an engine compartment.

Thanks for the replies re IVA Manual 14.
If the "luggage compartment" is not being used ie. no box in there does rule 14 still apply?

Suspect its open to interpretation. If its an empty area then you may be ok (its what i'm planning).
If its got mounting points / braces for a boot box that just happens not to be there then i suspect the testers mood may come into play.

If its under a boot cover then i would imagine that would be classed as a luggage compartment whether it has a bottom or not!

i don't think it is. its only a luggage compartment if its cabable of holding stuff. if its got no floor to it then its not a luggage
compartment as i see it.
i think the idea being that if the tank sprung a leak, or you spilled fuel when filling up, you don't want it sloshing around in your boot. if
it just falls out ontot he ground then its fine

From the July IVA newsletter:
Fuel tanks must not be mounted in or form part of the passenger compartment.* The fuel filler must not be located in the passenger, luggage or engine
compartment. The vehicle must not have any design feature that could allow the passage of fuel into the passenger compartment. There must also be a
degree of protection afforded to the fuel tank in the event of a rear impact.
*Although due to a 12 month dispensation, this will not apply until the 29th April 2010.
Not clear if this refers to the 1st or second sentence, as the asterix is after the full stop!!!
