Legal Process
I am getting somewhere near finally assembly now. Can some one give me a list (bullet points) or point me in the direction of the the procedure of the
legal stuff I must do.
Do I need to have the chassis inspected before assembly?
How do I obtain a chassis number?
What steps in what order no I need to do the legal stuff??
Thanks
Simon

You should contact your DVLA local office and request the procedure from them. It's pretty pointless taking any suggestions from here unless
someone has used your local office in the past...
I sent a quick note to my local office and they sent a comprehensive reply.
Cheers

You could also try looking at this site:
HERE
Which is very informative, right down to how the forms should be filled in.
hope it helps you as much as it did me!

This is a bit of a lottery depending on the DVLA office you use.
The best advice I can give you is to actualy speak to the person at your local DVLA office that deals with kit cars and ask them what documentation
he/she requires to register the car. DONT be fobed off or take as gospel what swansea tell you. There are 2 basic forms you need V55/5 & V627/1.
But if you ask them they will send you everything you need
Basic pointers.
You can make up your own chassis number (17 digits, make it as unique as you can).
You dont need an MOT but swansea will tell you you do, again speak to the person who is actualy going to register it.
Chassis inspection is again down to the local office, some want it, some dont.
Insurance is a bit of a problem, in that they only want to let you insure the car for 28days without a reg No.

I'm sure I've got one, just don't know where I've put it

The local inspector told me that i would have to be issued with a VIN by him and he would have to inspect the chassis due to a V5 discrepancy with my
donor car.
He was going to come and inspect the car on the 16th march but cancelled due to being ill.I had heard nothing until three weeks ago and finally rang
the northampton office via Swansea, as no direct phone number.I was told he would be off sick for another month and my only option is to trailer the
car to Northampton.
I am just finishing building a trailer and will be trying to arrange an inspection next week. Will let you know how I get on.

To prove Seabass's point about seeking advise from your local office. re the comment above about making your own Vin. I thought this also as
there are articles stating that you can do so, however, my local DVLA stated that I definately could "Not" make my own Vin up.
This is a common issue, the information on how to go about reg and SVA is so varied, you are best just to ask the authorities and do as they say with
a big smile on your face

I sent a letter to my local office asking about the process and proposing my own VIN, which the man accepted without any quibbles.
It really is a lottery!

I will confirm the lottery that is VIN
In Reading where i used to live they said just make one up 19 digits long bring it to us and we will ok it. I stamped on a number but then moved to
Devon before getting it checked.
I Devon i had to go to the DLVA with all my documents wait to be issued a number, make an appointment with the inspector to visit my house to check
that it was stamped on .
See its that easy.....
I now have two VINs stamped on my car
the cars looking good" a blind man would be pleased to see it"
''stop press'' the blind mans seen it said "it felt ok"
