do it the first of april?

why would dvla want to give you a couple of free days?

if you do it online on the 1st april (as you said you want it for april) you can drive for up to 5 days without the disc, as long as you have paid for it

don't write OT on a new thread title, you're creating the topic, everything you write is very much ON topic!

Not any more - was just telling 001Ben exactly the same the other day!!

linky

If you prefer to tax in the last few days of the month, there is now an exemption from the offence of not displaying a tax disc. This exemption covers the first five working days of the month and allows time for the new disc to arrive in the post.
The exemption only applies if applications are made before the current tax disc or SORN expires.

correct. but you can only do it if you've paid and applied for one.

Absolutely - and i'd be sure to carry a print-off of the above link / email receipt after applying during the 5-days too........... not that i'd EVER suggest that some cops will insist they know the law differently and give out a ticket for failing to display!!!

thanks for that information. I am in exactly the same situation. I can tax on-line but will now wait till 1st April to do it and keep proof of payment/application with the car till the tax disc arrives.

Thanks to t16turbotone for posting the exact question I was going to ask!

Why do they call Port Harcourt "The Garden City"?...... Becauase they can't spell Stramash.

Incredible isn't it, just tried taxing (currently SORN'd) mine at the Post Office (for the 1st of April) and was told that I could only do it from the 1st.

When I explained in a calm and restrained manner that the DVLC allowed 2 days before the end of the month despite the fact it was SORN'd I was still refused........

Was I correct, despite the SORN, can I tax it 2 days before the end of the month at the Post Office?

Regards

Martin.

From here :

If your vehicle has been untaxed, because you’ve just bought it, the tax disc has run out or a SORN is in force, you can tax from the first day of the month in which you apply.
OR
If you want the tax disc to start on the first day of the next calendar month, you cannot tax your vehicle more than two days in advance.

So I'm not sure if the first paragraph is specific to SORN vehicles or if the second paragraph can be applied to SORN too.
