IVA Wiring standards query
Hi,
I have my IVA at Nottingham on the 28th and am now going over the car to see if there are any obvious issues.
I am concerned about the wiring loom. I have read that the tape thet the loom is supplied in is not sufficient but it requires the split conduit or
spirl wrap.
But, in the IVA manual I can only find this paragraph:
7. All electrical cables/wires must be free from chaffing and secured at intervals of at least every 300mm unless contained in a secure hollow
component.
should I over the whole loom with spiral wrap - I thought the tape would be enough as my road car only has loom tape..
What have other people who have passed done?
Thanks
Frank

The split conduit is a lot easier to fit than the spiral stuff IMHO , both will tidy things up a lot. It does seem to be one law for manufacturers
and another for use , brake pipe securing on the Focus springs to mind, our cars have to have the pipes secured every 300mm and the Focus is more like
600mm

I had failed my first SVA with this. They said that all wires must be covered, I then used split plastic cable protector of various sizes everywhere
and self amalgamating tape to secure the ends. I must admit it does look very tidy now and it also passed without any problems. Barry

Id use split conduit just to make things neater anyway.
Cant comment on iva as i sva'd but mine passed with alot of wires just taped. Aslong as theyr secured and covered nicely i dont think itl fail.

i passed sva with the whole loom, taped up with non sticky loom tape, i think it looks better, and on mine all the wiring is hidden and out off site
any way.
i secuered my loom every 150mm, same as my fuel pipe, and brake pipe

If in doubt, get it covered with split conduit, cost you a lot less than a fail!
