Confused and Annoyed

I have received a fine by post from DVLA for not having tax on the sierra i broke for my tiger.

I have had a warning letter about this. I phoned them and they said the records had been updated and that was that. Until i opened the post today.....

What do i do?

The Tiger was SVA'd about a year ago and i took the paperwork to DVLA office in Lincoln to get the car road registered. Normal procedure. Got the paperwork sorted and they took the old V5 off me

Thanks
Dan

And the DVLA/police wonder why the amount of unregistered cars has gone up SINCE ANPR and speed cameras were introduced.

I had a similar problem.

I kept getting tax reminders for the sierra even though i had declared it scrapped. I just sorn'd it has a matter of course.

I eventually had to visit the local office and explain the situation.

So do i go to the local office? (in my case 40 miles away!!!!)

Or ring them?

The local office were the ones that sorted it all out, and screwed it up apparently....

I spent 12 months+ trying to obtain a logbook off them. Kept being told they could find no trace of my documentation and to re-submit receipt of purchase etc. In the end I got wazzed off and threatened legal action.
Logbook arrived four days later.
Oh, make sure you ask for the names of any people you speak to.

It's their paperwork cock-up,so I'd send them a recorded delivery letter stating that the car was used as the donor for your kit, which has been SVAd and registered and therefore the original car no longer exists and that they should have dealt with this already. You can then go on to say that if they do not sort it out and you have to attend the office in person, you will be charging them £25 per hour of your time and 40p per mile for your round trip. You never know, it might just work - other people have successfully claimed for such costs elsewhere before now and it may just give them the push to sort it out without you having to waste your time.

Ring Swansea and tell them, I believe there will be a number on the letter you received. They will ask you to write to them with the details. Tell them that it was a donor car and that you officially scrapped the car through your local DVLA office when you registered your kit, and that they took all the documentation. Give them dates and any other details you have. Swansea will cancel the fine, this happens all the time. I wouldn't rely on your local office sorting it out, after all they messed it up in the first place.
