immob for iva
hi i am buildin a mk indy with a gsxr 1000 engine, i do not have a steerin lock as it has been machined out, i thought my key had a transponder but
seems it doesn.
the car is nearly ready but now i have to fit an immob.
does it have to be cat 2 with a certificate or just have to work, can i use a transponder

can't you use a battery cut-off switch? I had one anyway, but maybe different IVA centres have different rules.

IVA manual specifically states a "manually operated battery master switch" is not acceptable.
I'd lend you my column for the steering lock but it seems it has to be deactivated whilst ignition is running so that wouldn't work as it
could come back on as has a separate key.
Manual doesn't mention Cat 2 or certificate but does mention "a little fob" so maybe you could get one of those??
I think I'm going to have to get rid of my steering lock as I imagine they might fail me for it because it's on a separate key to the
ignition so technically I could take the key out whilst running and activate it

mk say that a lock for the steerin is fine as they have had cars that have passed, think i am going to get a fob one

Ive got a toad cat B that ive took out mine.
six wires. Down side is it needs a 20mm hole in the dash for the touch key. And no cert'

My understnding of the IVA was that the car had to have 2 forms of immobilisation. I was planning on using a battery master kill switch, as well as a
lockable detatching steering wheel as another, on top of the ignition switch (wich is dash mounted as I don't have it on my steering column or
steering lock).
Where abotsdoes it say that the kill switch is not acceptable, as I've been told by a few people who have passed IVA that it was sufficient for
them? And would the removable wheel count as an immobilisation device, or am I pushing the boundary a bit there?
If it all looks bad I might drop the ideaof the battery switch and fit a CAT2 immobiliser to keep all happy - mght even lower the insurance....

It specifically mentions removable steering wheels as well and says they are also unacceptable.
It also says a mechanical OR electronic so I take that as just one.
It's all in the manual, pages 107/108 (which I was just in the middle of copying out when I deleted - not doing it again

i have recently brought but not yet fitted a cat 2 immobiliser. Its a transponder one so now touch pad required. It does ask for a door switch though.
I have on ignition key so i have a hidden switch.
Method of starting will be to put on the steering wheel, un isolate the battery, press a hidden button then flick on ignition and start.
Track days ARE the best thing since sliced bread, until I get a supercharger that is!

when i was ringing up about test dates they put me through to technical, they said that a battery immobiliser is not acceptabl and it clearly states
that ion the manul, neither are removal wheels.
He said that transponders in the keys that come in new bikes would wrok so long as you could prove, (have a blank key cut and prove it wouldn start
with that key as it didn have the transponder in it)
mine is an import when i tried the spare key it still started , the ones in america didn have transponderts.
the car is nearly ready so now i gott adive back in scuttl and panels off and into the wirin loom
