side light position
400mm from the outer edge of the vehicle. Is that all of the lamp that must be outside of this position or just some? In the position I would like
it, 400mm from the outer edge is about half way across the lens.

So if the outer edge of the side light is less than 400mm from the outer edge of the vehicle, you're all right?

What do you English guys mean with "side lights" ?
Is it as in "side marker lamp" ? Because it is only mandatory on vehicles longer then 6m (IVA manual)

'Side lights' is an old term for what are officially known as 'position lamps'. It's still probably the most common
term in day-to-day usage in the UK though.
To the OP: as above - it's 400mm to the outer edge of the lamp, so most of the lamp can be more than 400 from the edge. Careful where
you're measure edge to though, the widest point on the car isn't always obvious.

Thanks everyone. My 3 wheeled single seater has a fairly obvious widest point and 400mm in from that is the middle of my lights. I've cut and
fitted the mount for one side and it looks good.
