What mirrors do I need for an MOT
Hi there
Well I've finally crossed over to the dark side and bought a Cateringvan.
It's an ex-racer and I need to put it through an MOT. What mirrors do I need as minimum to pass?
Thanks in advance
Ian

for the MOT you need an o/s mirror and one other ,be that a centre (interior) or n/s. unless the interior mirror provides no view then 2 external
mirrors are required.
A pint for the gent and a white wine/fruit based drink for the lady. Those are the rules

Depends on age of registration
MoT manual dicates only 1 mirror is needed for cars registered before 1 August 1978
2 of the below for those registered after, 1 of which must be drivers side.
Can also be broken, but not too badly so as to seriously impair vision.
Obligatory mirrors are:
a). an exterior mirror fitted to the offside (right-hand side when seated in the driver's seat), or
b). an exterior mirror fitted to the nearside (left-hand side when seated in the driver's seat), or
c. an interior mirror
Passenger vehicles with no more than 7 passenger seats first used before 1 August 1978 must have any one of the above options
Passenger vehicles with more than 7 passenger seats of any age, and all passenger vehicles first used on or after 1 August 1978 (not being a minibus
as above), must have two mirrors, one of which must be option 'a'.
Reason to fail:
1. An obligatory mirror:
a. missing or insecure
b. so damaged or deteriorated that the view to the rear is seriously impaired
c. does not provide a view to the rear of the vehicle
d. not clearly visible from the driver's seat, or incapable of being adjusted to be clearly visible from the drivers seat
Any mirrors additional to the obligatory mirrors are not subject to this inspection.
Above taken from the MoT Manual.
