DVLA. No insurance MUST be SORN...

I've just read the little leaflet that came with my tax disc. It waffles on about uninsured drivers and that bit I agree with but then it states:
"If you are keeping your vehicle off the road and it is not insured you must make a SORN. If it is taxed you need to return the disc..."
So, if you want to take your car off the road for a couple of weeks to upgrade or whatever, and the insurance has run out or you suspend the policy, but the tax hasn't expired, you have to declare it SORN and return the disc?? Then after you've got the car insured, re-apply for the tax disc! That could mean you've had to cash in a disc and lose a large part of the VED due to it not getting cashed-in before the start of the month and then paying for a large bit of the month if you want it back on the road before the start of the next month!
Failure to adhere to this could result in a fixed penalty of £100, vehicle being clamped, seized and disposed of and court prosecution with a max fine of £1000. They are cross referencing with MID for info.
FFS!

Sorry if this is a repost. I don't get in much....

Fuckers.

I have a taxed Clio with the engine in bits on my drive, why should I insure it??! Im gonna get a traders policy for me and the wife - that will solve it!

My car never shows up on the MID as insured. I've been stopped by the police on numerous occasions about it. Phone the insurance company regularly to sort it but it still remains on there as uninsured. I'm sure i'm not the only one so they will have a nightmare relying on cross referencing with that database.

Normal is getting dressed in clothes that you buy for work and driving through traffic in a
car that you are still paying for - in order to get to the job you need to pay for the clothes
and the car, and the house you leave vacant all day so you can afford to live in it.
