registering car and insurance
hello all
i am in need of some assistance....again
i have my iva booked for 19th april so was trying to sort insurance out.
got a couple of prices but they say they can insure the car on its chassis number to start with but they need a reg number within 30 days or policy
will be void and cancelled.
so that got me thinking. dangerous i know. what happens if the car fails its IVA. i wouldnt be able to get a reg number or some people have even said
it has taken an age to get the dvla to register car.
i have tried to contact the dvla because i was hoping to take car to them after Iva since i only have trailor for day and was hoping to get all done
in one go.
however, this has been a nightmare in itself.
can someone tell me how you are supposed to book your car in to get registered at local dvla? whenever i have rang dvla, they say they cant put me
through to local offices.
sory for long post
hope someone can help

To the best of my knowledge (and experience) Preston DVLA don't want to see the car. I went the day after IVA with all paperwork and was granted
a reg there and then. Call in and talk to them. You'll get no where on the phone, but face to face I found them alright.

If you are taking the car for it's IVA on a trailer why do you need insurance?

thanks Lee. may give them a visit. mine will hopefully be an age related plate so dont know if that changes anything.
would it make a difference that the chassis number i received was from dvla manchester?
hi designer.
i was going to insure it so i could take to dvla office to hopefully get registered same day whilst i had trailer.
as far as i know, you arent able to drive to the dvla even if you have passed iva. not classed as a test like iva or mot

Shouldnt make any odds Steve. My number was generated by MNR. It's just a number that goes on the form. So long as it all matches up of course!
I actually filled in some of the DVLA paperwork whilst I was there. I told them why I was there, they told me what to fill in etc, they took lots of
money, I left with a reg number. Nothing like the stress I expected.
On the insurance front, I insured mine prior to IVA. Only because it was in full drivable condition and incase it got stolen!

If your thinking of using Adrian Flux, forget it, mine failed SVA and due to various hold ups didn't get retested for more than the month, the
Barsteward made an exorbitant charge, I had to threaten them with the insurance ombudsman to get any bloody refund. Be warned. Cheers Ray

I used 2gether insurance. They insured it on the chassis number then they extended the period when I needed to, no probs

thanks for replies and heads up regarding flux.
i have only got 2 quotes so far and adrian flux were the cheapest of those but if its going to cause problems, i dont mind paying extra. will give
2gether a try
tried again to contact local dvla but still no joy. need to find time to try and visit in person before test. see if i can get anywhere that way
