VIN allocation and authorisation/checking

Hello. Last year the DVLA sent me a letter with a VIN for my Silverstone. The letter reads:

"To facilitate registration it is necessary for the dealer/garage/MOT station to confirm that the identity number has been stamped or permanently embossed on the vehicle. Please ensure this letter is authorised below by the dealer/garage/MOT station and returned to the vehicle registration office."

I would like to know if others who been sent VINs from the DVLA have had the same letter and would the VIN normally be authorised by the examiner during the IVA test?
Thanks for your help. Chris.

I had the same letter "your number is sabtvr........" please get it stamped and signed. I stamped the chassis and signed the form myself. Chester DVLA accepted this when i submitted my V55/5. IVA inspector wasn't arsed if the VIN was authorised. They just made sure it was correct size, spacing and location on chassis.

I got a form from the DVLA when I took the car for inspection and allocation of VIN. The form simply asks for the number allocated to be verified as present on the chassis. My local garage not only signed & stamped the form for me, but even let me use their stamps! Nice peeps

Thanks chaps. So does checking of VIN actually form part of the IVA test? I had assumed it does as there is section about VINs in the IVA manual.
