DVLA inspection
Just got my letter through saying i have to take my mk to the local office for an inspection The first line says ' i refer to your
application to register an imported vehicle' obviously it's a kit. Is this just a standard letter for kits and imports or do i need to
get it changed? What do they actually check on the inspection? I've tried to ring the helpline but it just says they are very busy and cuts me
off.

Do you get a tax disc there and then or do you have to wait even longer?

You cant get a tax disc there and then, as you wont have plates there and then... It normally comes a few days later, but they vary massively from
centre to centre.

Depends how lucky you are.
You don't need plates for a tax disc, I got my authority to produce plates, and my tax disc within an hour of getting in there. The guy
disappeared saying 'I'll just go and get you a free number' then came back 5 mins later with a registration for me

I had my inspection on a Thursday afternoon. Told the guy I wanted to collect the docs from the office rather than posting. They were ready lunchtime
the next day along with the tax disc, got my plates made on way home. Was out driving by 3pm (pretty much 24hrs after inspection)

DVLA inspection is a massive anti-climax and a total waste of time.
You aren't allowed to drive it there (trailer only).
I had no need to remove from trailer, 2mins maximum.

Funny you say that about the trailer Matt, my inspector said it had to be taken off the trailer for health and safety reasons! All I did was open
bonnet to show vin plate! It wasn't as though he even had to set foot on the bed of the trailer!

Very true Dave! I'm not looking forward to when bishopbriggs closes and all the local Dvla offices close. Then we will
all be on here with our tales of woe dealing with Swansea.

The letter specifically says you must not drive the vehicle to the inspection unless you have trade plates. Lucky i've got a trailer otherwise
it would cost a small fortune in hire charges.

Well that was a complete waste of time. They checked the vin number, engine number and chasis plate (all of which had been checked at the IVA) asked
for my name and address and that was it. I was then told i may have to wait another few weeks for the tax and number plate!!!!!! Didn't even
take it off the trailer, hopefully thats the last hoop to jump through for these bureaucrats.
