Wrong vin number on V5?
I recently registered my MK at the start of last month on a 62 plate. I have just finally got the V5 through the post.
Had a look through it, and noticed they have got the vin number wrong!!!
It is meant to start with MK1NDY but they have put MKWDY
I suppose a 1 and N do look like a W if you look very quickly!
Has anyone else had this problem?
Do I just need to send the V5 back with a covering letter? I do luckily have a copy of the IVA pass cert with the correct VIN on.
Or is this going to be a right pain in the arse?
Cheers for any advice on this.

Send it back straight away - else you'll have nothing but pain in the future.
It's an easy process.

i'm could be wrong, but i thought 1 and I weren't allowed in vin numbers because they look very similar (and yes i'm aware that MK
give this in their numbers they give out, there was a thread about this about 2-3 months ago)
send it back though, its still wrong, and if they didn't pick it up on your car at the time then they should have
edit: ah of course you can have a 1, just not an I

send it back, tell them its wrong, MK were giving out vins with an I in them at some point though

don't write OT on a new thread title, you're creating the topic, everything you write is very much ON topic!

No o (OH) and no I (eye) (phonetic spelling) but full range of numbers allowed.
I sent mine back with a letter stating what was incorrect, with any evidence I had (VOSA docs in my case)
and it was fixed with no fuss.
BUT DO NOT LEAVE THIS.
Do it NOW..
(Caps are intentional)
as agred, not resolved will geve you a load of heartache, starting at the Mot, as it wont be on the database! Well the one on the car wont be.
Sort now, or suffer later.

Yes - do it now or you it will haunt you, tax renewal or trying to register the car SORN will be the first headache if you dont.
I am amazed that DVLA were able to make this error as substituting the W for 1N means there could only have been 16 characters in the VIN they set up
- so, since there system obviously can cope with 16 character VIN numbers why do they make such a big deal out of the format..............
Still - I am always amazed at the JCB telehandlers that I see on the roads for the hay bales, the ones with the 8 foot long 2 inch diameter pointed
spike mounted on the front and VOSA worries about the not covers on the wishbone mounts....
What became clear to me is you just have to play the system, not agree with it.

Thank, I will send a letter straight off with a copy of IVA cert.
And yes it is indeed a 16 digit number on the V5!
Also something I noticed is under the special notes it says. Assembled by parts which may not be new.
I thought the point of getting a current reg is proving all parts are new!

Matt the note on yours refers to standard note dvla register for say age related plates & Q plate.
Yep your should read 'declared new at first registration'. My last build regd Oct on a 62 plate and says just that. Suggest that you
politely tell em that the vehicle was new and reg'd as such could the pretty please amend the note when correcting the vin.
Cheers D
