I had my MOT the other day, so had had a look around -- from the horses mouth:
https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/your-car-and-the-mot
if you search the site for MOT you also get a list of special notices which have come out recently or will be soon. the 18th march notice was of note
to me, talks about steering locks having to be working - if fitted, etc the 20th of May one has more changes in it, I was told esp to do with the
brakes. the chap said to me it was coming in, in a few weeks.

I have a friend who is an mot tester, he says that kit cars have very little to test, as long as the suspension, brakes and lights work, the usual
seat belts not fraying and the emmisions meet the settings on the V5 there not much else to do
There is a set time for mot and kit cars usualy are completed early then the tester has a cup of tea until the time runs out.
I had a much rougher ride with the tin top

Being a Midtec Spyder I remember those having windscreens, so you also need to make sure that wipers and interior fan/demister work, and no large
chips in the screen in front of driver.
Also new changes in MOT to be aware of for drivers seat, if fitted with a front to back slider it needs to work and lock in place. I think they have
allowed for fixed seats with no sliders to pass as an exemption.

Thanks also for that.
Just as a side note. The screen has no fans what so ever?? I don't remember there being any issue before but then i was a kid (as the car has
been handed down from my dad) and it was over 15 years ago.

I was told by a local MOT tester that the lights don't need to work. He said you can take them off or tape them up. They can only test what is
presented and no lights isn't an MOT fail.

Really?? does that follow the same principal as a daylight MOT for a bike for instance?
In which case the theory would be if i presented the car without a windscreen wiper it wouldn't fail??

Not sure, but if you present without a windscreen you don't need wipers, washers or demisters. Not sure if that works on your car.

The MOT test covers what are defined as "obligatory lights" those are the lights the vehicle was legally required to have when it was
registered, it always has been so and you can't get round it.
The only vehicles that aren't required to have a full compliment of lights such as classic Ferguson TE20 tractors are exempt from MOT
anyway.
Also taping over lights dosen't count as removal, they have to be rendered inoperative and "painted over"

On 20 year old vehicle check the brake pipes very carfully.

Looking through the online manual I cant see any mention of demisting the front screen, so I may be wrong on that one.
It is a requirement for IVA.

Britishtrident. Interesting. That differs from the advice I was given by my local MOT tester, he said the rules are changing so fast it's
difficult to keep up but that's the latest situation with the new MOT regs. Regardless, I wouldn't want to drive a car if the lights
didn't work so it's theoretical rather than something I'd attempt.
It does beg the question over what is tested if you remove the glass from the windscreen. Is it still counted as a screen?
