Car registration
I have a bit of a dilemma and think I MAY have found a way out of it, anyone care to comment?
I've got my SVA retest on Monday morning, which hopefully I should pass.
I then have my DVLA inspection on Tuesday morning.
I have had a letter saying that it is an offence to drive an unlicensed vehicle to the DVLA inspection, and that if this applies to my car I must
carry it there.
The same letter also states that I need the following to register my car:
- A completed V55/5 form
- Proof of name and addres
- £38 registration fee
- Road tax fee
- Insurance certificate or cover note
- SVA certificate
Now I notice this list doesn't include anything from the DVLA saying that my car has been inspected, so my question is this: after my SVA test
on monday, am I allowed to go to the DVLA office and register my car, which would then allow me to drive to the DVLA inspection the following morning,
avoiding the need to scrounge a trailer from somewhere?
I would phone the DVLA and ask them but you just go straight to a call centre who don't seem to know anything, so any advice or comments would
be very much appreciated.
Thanks
Pete

My local inspector came to my house and checked the car over, but I did all that about 2 months before the SVA. I believe that speeded things up when
I went to register the car as he wasn't in that day but his report was. OUr car was registered approx. 2 hours after SVA.

So does that mean they need a inspection report before they will register your car?

I drove mine to the inspection after SVA - all they check was the vehicle identity - total waste of time.

I agree, seeing as they let me invent my own chassis number it almost seems irrelevant checking it anyway. It all depends on the guy checking it I
guess, if he's a decent bloke he would probably turn a blind eye but I don't want to get caught out...

Mine was never checked by DVLA. Bloke said he was too busy and if SVA had been passed that was good enough for him!
Made up chassis number, make and model Bennett L7RS, age related plate - no worries!

DVLA????? WHO????
The only time I had had a run in with them was when a friend went to get the car registered, I was at work so I helped her to fill the form in over
the phone, They have never once set eyes on the car and haven't asked to, when going about the chassis number I just made one up, and that in
Nottingham is ok
I don't like to trouble people if there is no need
