best bet is to locate your nearest DVLA local office, and ask to speak to the kit car man.

You need to either make up a chassis number, or get an inspection and one asigned. then book SVA, maybe an MOT before if you want. Once you have a proper chassis number you can arrange insurance. you can then legally drive to SVA and MAYBE to MOT. mot is only needed as a first short road test. once the SVA is passed first time with flying colours (i wish...), you need to go to the DVLA local office with your MAC1 certificate and money for a tax disc. then reg plates and away!

First of all, get in touch with your local DVLA office when you're a couple of months away from finishing. If they're anything like Ipswich, the man will arrange to come out and do his inspection, give you a VIN (or agree to yours - YMMV). This will make life easier when you apply for the SVA.

Hopefully he/she will also give you a set of forms, declaring what parts you've used and so on, plus a SVA application form.

Phone your nearest SVA test centre and see what the current delay is from application to getting a test - Norwich and Chelmsford both said around 1 month from their receiving details from Swansea.

The more work you can get the local DVLA man to do prior to the SVA the quicker you'll be on the road afterwards!

Good luck,

David

Note: I'm glad that Joel and I agreed on the details!

i think it was lee (roadkillUK) that said the dude at leeds was good. If it is the mr smith i have been pointed to, then he is wrong! the man (mr smith, not lee...) is a twat, who doesnt answer letters for months. i need to get round to writing again soon.

DO NOT DELAY! you will be pissed off when this turns out to be the stumbling block.

I don't want you lot to annoy the fella, his name is Mr. Harrison, at Leeds DVLA. Couldn't be nicer.
