Do I need a Dashboard?
Hi,
Planning my dashboard, bottom radious etc, and I wonder if to pass all the legal stuff is necessary to have a dashboard at all ?
I wonder if I am able to get all the necessary functions in the stalks, and with a motorbike dash....would that do the trick?

No NEED to have dashboard, there just a convenient place to place the glove box, dials and switches!
So as long as you mount the dials (probably behind the wheel, as long as you can see them ok) taking into account the sharp edges/radii /protrusions
and soft faces I'd have thought you can do what you like

What would you have in place a big opening showing the chassis, wiring etc ? might be IVA-able but would look damn odd.

The Arial Atom seems to get away with it, different style of car but you get the idea.

I assume they aren't passed under IVA though? I thought from previous discussions i've seen on here that some of what manufacturers
'get away with' under Type Approval - or whatever the small quantities production equivalent is - wouldn't necessarily get through
IVA...?

Thank you for all you inputs!
My idea is to get the car registered and after that go carbon probably. Not that I like the format without dashboard, but if it takes me out the time
to get one done just for IVA....
At the moment, this is what I have:
From your comments, I believe that might be less time consuming to make a temporary one that just to fix everything to and go dash-less route.

As mentioned, unlike a screen say, which makes it easier to pass without the added complication, I would agree, that an ugly but well padded dash
would look better than none and pass better!.

Remember also that the dashboard protects everything behind it from radius testing, so it might be easier to put one on than make sure that everything
that would have been behind it will pass IVA. You can always change it afterwards. I made mine with about £10 worth of bits from B& Q.

I agree with others, fitting something cheap and easy for IVA and changing after as the way do it, though cant see why you couldnt make a carbon dash
to pass that also looks the part.
