Is Odometer required for MOT?
Hello
My ETB digital odometer is blank most of the time. My MOT is due in October. Is the odometer mileage reading required to pass the MOT?
The unit is from 2007, I've called ETB, it can't be repaired, their suggestion is to remove it from dash and put somewhere warm with the
bulbs removed to remove any moisture. This does seem to work but the odometer display is still very intermittent. The mileage is still counting up but
mileage display is blank 95% of the time.
Don't want to fork out 166 for a new speedo if I don't need too!
Why do they call Port Harcourt "The Garden City"?...... Becauase they can't spell Stramash.

OK thanks, that's good news.
I will carry on with my "intermittent" gauge for the time being.

Are you sure about IVA? I was certain it was a requirement and I thought when sva was introduced people failed with bike Speedos due to not having an
odometer

It is a Requirement of the IVA Section 17 Speedometer and reverse gear, a working and accurate speedometer must be present and a test is conducted to
acertain its accuracy.
It is also a legal requirement for all motor vehicles to have both a working speedometer and a working odometer under construction and use. Motor
vehicles must also have a fuel level indicator as it is an offence to enter a motorway knowing you will run out of fuel.

I haven’t tested for 3 years but when I was testing if the odometer didn’t show a reading the mileage was shown as not recorded. There has however
been changes since then , I don’t know if odometer is one of them.

Still not a failure on MOT. Took one this week with no reading on the digital odo'.
I thought the IVA issue with bicycle speedos was the lack of illumination not lack of Odometer.

You could be right about illumination as I do remember thinking about how I could fit a light to a bike Diego that did record miles.

It IS an MOT fail - but I’ve never seen one checked.
