Seat belt mounts.

I have just realised I may have a problem with my inner seat belt mounts.
The front and mid section of my chassis is Triumph Herald and uses the Herald centre seat belt mounts. These will be covered by the floor and tunnel and the welds will be impossible to see.
I'm not adverse to making new mounts or adding a visible reinforcement if this is needed. I'm assuming that the Herald mounts were never type approved.
So, will they need to be checked and should I make them obvious to Mr. BIVA?

tHANKS.

I'm sure they will be checked. Can you add an inspection cover on the top of the tunnel? This is what i am doing at several areas of the car.

Photograph them before you cover them.

I've already fitted the tunnel unfortunately and retrofitting inspection plates could get messy (yes, I'm an idiot).
I've tried to photograph them but the factory welds are almost invisible!
I could fit 5mm plates fairly easily, I have a good fit welder so no spatter to contend with.

I've now emailed Approvals at DVSA.
I'll report back.

Approvals declined to offer any comment only that it was the decision of the examiner on the day.
With that in mind I have made some substantial reinforcing plates and photographed the process. These have gone into my "on the day" file.

Cheers.

wow they were helpful...

Yeah I've been taking loads of pictures as I go, but always keeping in mind, can the inspector see that on the day?

I have tried (and succeeded) to make sure that everything is easy to inspect. This is the first thing I've tripped up on.

Approvals have been very helpful in the past with my enquiries. I was surprised at the response.

yea , I know its 3 months since the original post but...
if the doner herald was made after 1965 the seat belt mounts will have been to 'b.s. au 48 :1965'.

Unfortunately the history of the Herald chassis is unknown.
I have reinforced the original and photographed them. This has gone into my folder of "what the man might want to see"
