IVA Paperwork
Hello All
I have so many questions with registering my kit car for road use some help would be appreciated
The project started some 11 years ago with my son wanting a bonding project for us, so being a fabricator/ welder with my own business agreed and
obtained plans from GTS Tuning for building the chassis, wishbones etc. on completion of the chassis and other parts I found out GTS had ceased
trading! So have continued making all the parts myself and all main parts from a single donor car. Now it's finished I am a bit lost on what to
do next
1) What do I call the car? The chassis plans are for a GTS W7DE. The remainder is a mix of Haynes Manual and self-invention.
2) On form IVA4 what is the identification number, what is the make and model if built from scratch, do I use the GTS Tuning W7DE chassis
designation
3) What other forms will I need apart from IVA 1C and IVA 4?
4) Can I keep the same reg. plate or age related plate or does it have to be a Q plate? Does this affect the emissions test?
If you can help with these questions that would be great.
Thanks in advance

I think you will need to apply for a VIN number off the DVLA they issue these.
You can name the car what ever you want Tinbasher 7 for example
You can not keep the actual donor reg number, if you have used parts off a donor vehicle and have the donor V5 you can apply for an age related
plate.
If you do not have donor V5 then you will need to apply for a Q plate.
Example:
1a application type tick "statutory".
1b enter; your details.
2a enter; your nearest test centre.
3a (ii) enter; MEV (VIN) chassis number.
3b enter; driver’s side under bonnet.
3c tick box A and include an amateur declaration form IVA 4 and copy of evidence of build e.g photo's and invoices.
4a enter; MEV Exocet.
4b enter; date the kit was completed.
4c tick; NO.
4d tick; NO.
4e tick; NO.
4f enter; sports car.
4g enter; engine number on your V5
4h enter; On engine block, they might find it.
4j tick; manual or auto.
4k enter; 2.
4m enter; as appropriate.
4n tick; non turbo unless you have fitted one.
4p tick; NO. Unless you have retained ABS.
4q NA
4r tick; petrol.
4s enter; 1600 or 1800cc.
4t enter; 4, in line.
4u enter; 115 BHP @ 6500 rpm. Or 132 BHP if 1.8 engine.
4v enter; 110 mph.
4w (i) axle 1 500 axle 2 500 gross 1000 train NA
4x tick; NO.
Go to part 9.
And don't forget to include copy V5, build pics, amateur built declaration form IVA 4

For and age related plate, you will need to show the receipt for the donor and other major parts, otherwise they will give you a Q plate just like
they did to me seeing as the receipt for the donor car was lost during two sales of the kit over 16 years.

IVA Paperwork
Thanks guys
That’s really helpful, I’ve got the V5 in my name and the VIN Plate but no receipt as the car was given to me
It’s an early 92 Sierra EFI converted to run on a Weber twin choke hence not sure about emissions on a Q or age related
Plate I don’t want to shoot my self in the foot

I’ve got as far as applying for a VIN. This was very straightforward but bear in mind that The DVLA has been ravaged by COVID and they are presently
on a 4-day strike regarding poor COVID security at tbeir offices. In other words, they might have a backlog.

at the IVA they don't care what kind of reg you might or might not get in the end
(that would be expecting VOSA and the DVLA to actually talk to each other )
So for the IVA only your emissions is based on the engine age - as long as you can prove it otherwise they'll test it like a brand new car (some
testers seem to accept the ford engine age table in the burton power catalogue )
so for a 1992 engine you should easily be in the non-CAT limits (just follow the flow charts in the IVA manual)
when you register it the emissions limits from the IVA should be printed on the new V5c (so you can use this with awkward MOT testers in future)
but if you get a Q plate the MOT emissions are treated as pre-75 (visual smoke only)
here's the bit in the MOT manual you need:

one point,
do not tell dvla that you have scrapped the doner car, until the rest of the paperwork is sorted.
if physically scrapping the old bodyshell, get a receipt without it saying 'scrap car' and keep the vin plates from it
EDIT
just re-read your post looks like you have done that right already ;-)

I've been trying to find how to request a VIN number for a little while now! (Why can't they make it easy!!!?)
Do I just send a request email to the email address you've posted here?
I will either die working on a car or crashing at high speed!

Thanks!
Just sent them an email, hopefully I get a VIN soon. Although it is the DVLA so nothing happens fast!
