Re-engine a Q plate car?

Hi All
I have an old Q plate car, prior to sva/iva and need to replace the engine on the log book. SOmone mentioned that with an IVA car you need to re-IVA it if the engine is replaced. Will I have any problems with DVLA for my Q plate car as it was built prior to SVA?

Don't want to open up a can of worms with DVLA.

Cheers
Nick

I think you only need to iva it, if you change the chassis.
engine swaps are normal, but you may have to prove the new engine type/number to dvla, (so they can extract the correct car tax)

edit to add
iva is not applicable to cars over 10 years old

The engine is only 1 point out of 14 for the DVLA considering a vehicle to have been changed - and you only need 8. The biggest is the chassis/monocoque at 5 points.

Perfectly fine, it's been done on many cars and it's just a paperwork exercise. I have heard mention of an 'engineers report', which is basically your friendly MOT guy writing a letter saying that the engine with the number 'xyz' is in your car.

It's what I'm planning for my car. First IVA with the donor engine, then an engine swap to something a bit 'more'. Staying with the donor engine for registration hopefully makes things a bit easier.

Ha Ha, that's good to know.

Thanks for all the comments, I guess I'll leave it for the moment as have a few snags and upgrades to sort out - again. Why does it always find a way to fail just as it is working fantastically??

Cheers Nick
