Hazard warning light/telltale and SVA!

For SVA, do i need hazard warning lights?

Daft question, and I assume I do, but for "vehicles of indeterminate age or origin" (Q platers) hazards are not needed!

Assuming I do need them, what does the manual say about the telltale? Does it need to be red, or signify that both lots of indicators are on? Does it need to have the triangly symbol on it?

Dev,

Yes they are required for SVA but not for MOT if no switch is fitted.

Most use the switch on top of the Sierra column cowel. Its appropriately marked up and is the right colour too.

Symbols and colours on safty items tend to be a sticking point at SVA so best to get them right 1st time, or use OE specification items if your not sure.

I am not using a Sierra steering column. I am using a manta one (I think it's better!) and while this has a hazard switch, it is not illuminated and has no symbol on it.

I think I will use a peugeot 205 Hazard switch and foglight switch, so both have warnings built in.

Dammit, that means I need two switches in addition to the single manta stalk!!

Take a wire from the hazard switch to flasher unit connection and put a bulb on the dash with the hazard emblem on it.

yours, Pete

I went into the RSPCA office the other day. It was so small you could hardly swing a cat in there.

I'm sure SVC will have a suitably marked light at a reasonable price...
