Help with SVA
Hi all
I have been reading with interest the posts on this site.
I need some info in regard SVA and registration.
This is my problem
A couple of years ago I bought a derelict F27 complete, except for engine.
The log book had it down as a 79 escort sports
With it came 2 MOTs (2000 and 97) with the make Escort sports f27
2 tax disks (2001 and 96) with a Escort VIN plate on the car
I contacted Swansea and they said to get it MOTd apply for tax and just inform them of its change to a kit car. And the book would be changed (Without
sva)
When I came to do this they referred me to the local office who said it must be SVAd
As the car has been a kit for 10 years must it be SVAd?
If not what do I do next.
Ok so far?
I don’t have a real problem with SVA after reading the posts if I must I will.
But how do I register it using what as the donor?
I think most of the car is old escort RWD
But there’s more.
The engine now fitted is a Vauxhall 16v red top on carbs
This engine I purchased from a recovery yard with no ID number on it
The police stolen vehicle squad stamped a number on it for me and registered it on there data base.
How do date this engine? In regard emission test thingy?
So what are my options?
Thanks in anticipation

I think the "cleanest" and most legit way to do this would be to forget everything that has gone before, and SVA it as a new build.
That way you know it's right, and you can register it no bother. Just get/invent etc receipts for the various bits and then get it on a Q-plate
(where you don't need any "donor" vehicle evidence)
The engine is a big problem though. If the prefix to the engine number was ground off too (the 20XE/C20XE bit) then you are knackered! You can't
get the £75 letter from Vauxhall as you have no engine number to work from, and if the prefix was still there you could (if it was a 20XE not a C20XE)
get evidence to say these ceased production in 1991, but I guess this is ground off too!.
Only answer is to get another vauxhall engine (or just the block) or stick an old crossflow in it for the SVA, then swap to the Vauxhall after and
just inform DVLA of the change in CC's and engine number!

I agree with what ns dev has said. But being a red top it will be a C20XE i would imagine. Did these not stop production in 94?? then 95 the
ecotec came about?? If thats true surely the engine age wont be too much off a problem?
Could u not scrounge and engine number of a scrapped xe and stamp it on..

Built the purple peril!! Let the modifications begin!!

Danozeman - the earlier engines were 20-XE, later ones C20-XE (C = Catalyst!!) I have two of the former and one of the latter!
If you have a proper vauxhall number then you can get a letter from Vauxhall specifying engine age, but they charge £75 for the privelige, do a
search, the address of the bloke you need at Luton is on here somewhere.
Re-sva it and re-register, using the vauxhall letter to get you through emmisions. Problem is, I am not sure if it originally had a cat, it may need
one for SVA, have to ring the local test centre for info on that one! The inspector may see the "C" in the engine number and know his
stuff!

Escort column may not, check the SVA manual, it depends on the angles of the UJ's on the column downlink. There are minimum angles which are
supposed to be sufficient to prevent the column being pushed into you in a crash, but I can't remember the angles!
