Age of engine proof

Im using a Nissan engine from a 200SX. After trying various means of getting written proof of age of manufacture (I emailed the Kyushu Nissan plant in Japan!) I have just finally had a call from Nissan UK following a second letter to them, saying they do not have and production data for the engines ! only the chassis numbers (in my case June 23rd 1990). They cant even prove what engine was originally installed at the time of manufacture/assembly of the car.

Is the V5 useable as proof of age of manufacture of engine ? if its the original engine that was installed in the car then the engine MUST have been made before the date the car was assembled, does Mr SVA accept this ?

If not can Swansea provide the data for what engine was originally installed in a particular car ?

might be wrong, but I'd have thought the v5 should be ok, otherwise try haynes technical dept, they may be able to provide a letter saying what years certain engine codes were fitted to certain cars/models which should back up the v5..

According to the SVA manual the V5 is ok.

I would add my interpretation that any examiner worth his salt will check that the V5 does say "new at first registration" on it otherwise it means nothing (many RHD imports are not new at first reg)

You are actually much luckier than people like Ned!! Many of us don't have a V5 either, though I have now "found" one!

V5 is fine, that's all I had for my crossflow. I'd only just got the V5 back at SVA, having changed engine number to match unknown crossflow!!

I think the SVA will accept a letter from a trusted source. I work for nissan at the technical centre and may be able to get my hands on some paper work stating that the engines were built at a certain time.

If you U2U me your engine number i will see what i can do. As it is the technical centre i might find info on individual cars but i could get some info on particular engines. Any idea if your type of 200SX engine was ever fitted with a cat? Im guessing you want the engine age to avoid the stricter emissions tests?

I havent had any luck being able to get the age of the engine.

The engine department can tell me it was made in 1990 but cant put it in writing.

If you still cant come up with anything and are getting desperate u2u me.
