Registering car at Brighton
I know all the offices have different processes and procedures but thought it worth sharing my experience of the Brighton office so it may help
others.
Firstly they say they don't inspect before SVA only after.
Best way is to pass SVA and then fill in the forms and take them in person to the Brighton office.
They will process the forms and you can get it inspected at the DVLA office on either a Monday or Wednesday morning, they will come to you but this
will take longer.
They had no problem with me driving it to the inspection, I checked with my insurers (Adrian Flux) and they had no problems as long as I had an
appointment with the DVLA.
Arrived there and a VERY VERY nice female inspector looked at the car for all of 3 minutes and checked the engine and chassis number and that was
that. She also said that although having the chassis stamped is not a requirement they prefer to see the plate AND the chassis stamped.
I drove home and she went to give the forms to the guy who does the registrations (Dan), he was on the desk all morning but said he would try to do it
this afternoon and give me a call and I can come and pick it up.
So all being well should be registered and legal tommorrow at the latest.
Bit long winded but at least it may help someone who's going to Brighton.
Rich.

I believe the official viewpoint is that if you have an apointment and it is insured it is fine but like I said before things seem to change everyday
depending on the office!!
What I would do is ring Swansea and ask them recording the person you spoke to and time and date of the call and then if they say it's ok then
even if the local office complain you can just say Swansea said it's ok and tell them who you spoke to and the time and date of the call.
The key here is that you MUST be insured if you drive it there so make sure you check with your insurer it's ok whatever happens.
